Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect information when you visit cooperative.io or write to us, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Cooperative.io (“Cooperative”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates the website at cooperative.io (the “Site”). We are based in New York, NY.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site and when you write to us, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. For any question about it, write to hello@cooperative.io.
This policy covers the Site and your correspondence with us only. The websites and services of the companies in our portfolio are governed by the terms and policies published on those sites.
Information we collect
Information you send us. The Site has no accounts and no forms. When you email us, including through the Partner with us, Invest, Bring us a problem and Join a company links, we receive your name, your email address and anything you include in your message or attachments, such as a CV or information about your company.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, some information is collected through the services we use to run and measure it:
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the Site is used. It collects information such as the pages you view, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city and country, derived from your IP address), your device, browser, language and screen size, and how you interact with the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers. It does not store IP addresses.
- Hosting and security. The Site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical information needed to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse, such as your IP address, browser type, the address requested and the time of the request.
- Browser storage. The Site’s own code does not set cookies. It uses your browser’s session storage to remember small interface details during a visit, such as which page of the Notes book to reopen. This information stays in your browser and is cleared when you close the tab.
We do not ask for sensitive information through the Site. Please do not send us sensitive information, such as health or financial details or government identification numbers, by email.
How we use information
- To read and reply to your messages, and to consider partnership proposals, problems you bring us, investment enquiries and job applications.
- To operate, maintain and secure the Site, and to detect and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the Site is used and to improve it.
- To comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use and protect our rights and the rights and safety of others.
We do not use your information to make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
Legal bases. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal information on these bases: to take steps at your request, such as replying to your message; our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the Site and in managing our business correspondence; compliance with legal obligations; and your consent, where the law requires it.
Cookies and analytics
The only cookies on the Site are set by Google Analytics:
- _ga distinguishes one visitor from another. It expires after two years.
- _ga_QSLZVP1L2D keeps the state of a visit. It expires after two years.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can stop Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The Site works the same without these cookies. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google’s explanation.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers that process it on our behalf and under our instructions: Google, for analytics and for our email, and Cloudflare, for hosting and security.
- Companies in our portfolio, when your message concerns one of them, for example an application for a role at that company or a proposal meant for it.
- Legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or legal process, or is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of Cooperative, our users or others.
- Business transfers, as part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this policy.
International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, as offered by our service providers.
How long we keep information
We keep your emails and attachments for as long as we need them to respond, to pursue the conversation they started and to keep reasonable business records, and then we delete them. Analytics information is kept in Google Analytics for no longer than 14 months. Cloudflare keeps technical logs for limited periods under its own policies. We may keep information longer where the law requires it.
How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections to the Site and access controls on our email. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California and other U.S. states with privacy laws, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
- correct information that is inaccurate;
- delete your information;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it;
- receive your information in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@cooperative.io. We may need to confirm your identity before we act, and we will respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorised agent, who must show that you have authorised them. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
California residents. In the past 12 months we have collected identifiers (such as your name, email address, IP address and online identifiers), internet activity (such as pages viewed and interactions with the Site), approximate location, and professional information you choose to send us. We collected it from you, from your browser and from our service providers, for the purposes described in this policy, and disclosed it only to the categories of recipients listed above. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to hello@cooperative.io and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
The Site links to other websites, including the sites of our portfolio companies and LinkedIn, X and Facebook. The share links on our Notes open those services only when you choose to use them. Information you give to other sites is governed by their own policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and if the changes are significant we will say so on this page.
